Hotpoint Tumble Dryer Repair

Over the last year the heating element and water pump has failed on our Hotpoint dryer - I replaced both parts and the dryer has worked fine since. Last week however the dryer failed to power on - I unfortunately have been sick and after confirming the wall socket was fine and the plug fuse was good I took the opportunity to give in and order a new heat pump dryer as a replacement.
Before offering the dryer for scrap - today I removed the top and found the below - the neutral cable has melted completely. This cable has never been moved/adjusted since we bought it new and you can see it's melted down to the copper cores. Very bizzare.
Question 1 - Over the last month the dryer has been placed in front of a radiator, do you think this has contributed to this problem?
Question 2 - I can get a genuine replacement power cord for around £16. Do you think I should replace this, test and pass it onto someone else? If I had paid for a warranty I'm thinking this is what they'd do in this case.

Q1 - I would be surprised if that was the case, surely all of the wires would have melted the same way if it was caused by the radiator?chib said:Over the last year the heating element and water pump has failed on our Hotpoint dryer - I replaced both parts and the dryer has worked fine since. Q2 - You can try it although I would want to know the definite cause of the melting before passing the machine onto someone else. If you have already brought a replacement, I would just scrap it but that's up to you? Would you give it away or sell it?0 -
This has nothing to do with the radiator - it's obviously a result of the poor contact between two parts of the 'spade'-like connector. Can you disconnect the top 'female' part to see both parts of the connector? Quite possibly, the other, invisible, part need replacing or attention as well.I'm sure you can source the spare parts, but, possibly, a simpler and cheaper solution is possible.0
