A previous thread indicates that letters of administration were obtained, and the house sold decades ago. Father was paid nothing. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

If grandfather died intestate, then his assets had to be shared between his children, including any deceased who had children themselves. Did that happen?
He also then received nothing from his Father's estate - of course it's always possible that there was nothing to share once she'd covered the funeral costs and any debts. The Letter of Administration says that according to the application the net value of the estate was not more than £25k
The house sold for £31k - 3 months after the LoA. I guess it was in a bad state as it sold a year later for £47k!

If your grandmother left a will, did you download it from the Probate Registry? Costs £1.50. Although it's been very dodgy since the updates last year.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

As others have pointed out, even if there is a will, unless there was a need for probate to be obtained the Probate Registry wonlt have a copy of it. As I understand it probate is usually only needed if the estate consisits of property, shareholdings and/or amounts of savings over the banks thresholds and it's not being inherited by a spouse.

But still selling a property would normally require probate.
