    You could report them anonymously to the relevant department on suspicion of benefit fraud.

    Then if their benefits are stopped, they might soon then bank the cheque, as they need the money!!
    How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)
  • You say the beneficiary has acknowledged receipt of the cheque so your friend clearly has contact with them. Why then doesn’t he contact them again to ask for their bank details to process a bank transfer?  Otherwise as others have said just get the cheque cancelled and transfer the amount to another account, preferably an executors account so that it has no impact on their own financial situation if they claim benefits themselves.
