katejo  I have dropped to working 4 days a week. I knew I would lose 20% of my flexible  leave but further deductions are made from my bank holiday allowance.
Which day is your non working day? I’m currently considering dropping one day, but a Monday and by my calcs I’ll actually ‘profit’ on BH?
    I have just done this....

You don't actually profit from having mondays.
But, you do the get to have the (monday)  bank holidays when you would like....

I would say it is relatively straight forward to have a pension income > than your current salary. When my wife hits state pension age, her pension in current terms will be around 23k pa (2 db pensions + state pension), she currently earns 17k pa
I wasn't including the later state pension. I just meant the personal pension immediately after retirement at an age under 66/67.

Yes it isn't as bad if you choose Monday but that wasn't the best choice for me for other reasons. Mine is Tuesday at the moment so, for every Monday bank holiday (and also Christmas/New Year/Easter bank holidays when my workplace is closed), I lose 20% of the bank holiday hours which are then deducted from my individual leave allowance (unless the bank holiday is on a Tuesday as the last Boxing Day was). It is a really complicated calculation.

I work from home and dropped a Friday but work a compressed week instead. Just log on a bit earlier and log off a bit later. Works for me and the company.
  • I dropped a day a week, mine is a Thursday. I love having that day off where I can book any appointment or go out for the day. Places are generally quieter on the midweek days.
Plus I can just take the Friday off if I want a long weekend.
Although my salary went down of course, my quality of life went up more than the value of salary lost.

My workplace pro-ratas bank holiday entitlement. So someone who works 80% and doesn't work Mondays gets 80% of a day off to take another time. But on a Friday bank holiday that is on their work day they have had a full day off, but are only entitled to 80%, so pay 20% back.

Balances out for most people but part-timers who work Monday and Friday can end up owing a lot back.

I went to 3 days from full time last August, working Monday to Wednesday, my choice as it suits what I do and my hobbies.
As for bank holidays, for instance last xmas I would have had to take holiday as they fell on my working days and those 3 are the only non flexible BH we have. Luckily for me my manager is very accommodating and if I want to change the days one week I can, so for instance the week after next I am working Monday Tuesday & Thursday as I have something on on the Wednesday. All suits me very well.

I don't have the compressed week option.

Yes, that’s what I meant. Profit in terms of more flexible leave, rather than having to take it on set BH days. There is at least 4 BH Mondays, I think that would equate to around 3 extra leave days after taking into account making up the extra on non Monday BH
