Aaand - sorted! Found a Kenwood 6.5l on FB marketplace for £10, in great nick; they were downsizing to a 3.5l. All's well that ends well  ;)

I'm still wondering, though, what the base - also the lid - of the cracked one could be used for? Seems a shame to just dump them, though I really don't want to hoard them - we have enough stuff! Had a little Google but couldn't find anything sensible. The cracked pot itself will go on to hold one, or some, or our houseplants; we have a few that grew mightily last summer and need a heavier outer pot now.

Well, one answer - DD1's boyfriend has taken the lid; his mother has the same model & her lid has never fitted properly! Note to Lakeland - socks may need pulling up on these...

Sadly they changed the terms of their guarantee quite some years ago
    it used to read:
'The Lakeland guarantee...is probably the simplest guarantee in the world!
if you are not satisfied at any time, you receive your money back! This is our promise.'

I invoked it once- my Remoska had broken. They argued with me and said the guarantee only lasts 3 years- to which I replied not when I bought it! They insisted I returned the broken item: I did & money refunded

Just found an item in the back of the cupboard complete in packaging- so never used !- and there was the old guarantee.....

Many, many years ago they offered a lifetime guarantee, and genuinely meant that it should last out the buyer's lifetime. But then they changed it to the lifetime of the appliance, not the owner - in other words, if it broke after 3 weeks, its lifetime could be said to have been 3 weeks! So 3 years doesn't seem so unreasonable, in that light. I was only two weeks over the 3 years with my slow cooker; could have howled, as I had spotted the slight crack a few months ago, but didn't report it as it didn't seem to be causing any mischief. But - then it did.

2 litres of chicken stock bubbling away nicely in my £10 replacement as we "speak"...

OH was initially reluctant for me to look for a secondhand replacement ("No guarantee, plus why would people be getting rid if it if it was still ok?") until it became obvious that that was the only game in town. I had to point out that the one before the Lakeland one, a hand-me-down from a friend who had downsized, had lasted us 15+ years, and the one we bought new - just over 3 years. Luck of the draw!

  • I have just read your thread with interest thriftwizard.  Just before Christmas my Lakeland slow cooker lid broke (glass).  I tried to order a new one on the Lakeland website, but like yours, it had been discontinued, after a lot of searching on the internet without success, I contacted Lakeland via twitter private message to ask if they could help me (the slow cooker was around 18 months' old). Without argument they offered me a full refund once they had done some checks to make sure this was a geniune claim.  In my experience, if you contact them privately on twitter most companies respond positively (my son originally recommended I do this a few years ago).  This may be because they do not want you to make a negative tweet about their services or products.  It seems to work!  Give it a go as you might get your money back.

Total kudos to Lakeland! I did as @Fridayschild suggested above, and although I was further out of guarantee than the lad on the phone had suggested, they are sending me a total replacement as a goodwill gesture. That''s what I call excellent customer service.

So I suppose I should sell on the one I picked up on Marketplace... 6.5l is too big to keep it for a dedicated pudding pot!
