Wood Burner – Suitable Kettle or Pot?

Hi all,

We’ve got a Clearview Pioneer 400 multi fuel stove with a plate on top. Lovely thing.

But, we don’t have much clearance at the top, hence the use of our mini fan!

It would be good to utilise the heat to boil water, say for a coffee.

I’ve got this old camping pan laying about which sits comfortably within the clearance. Think it’s aluminium. But, the handle is plastic.

Reckon that handle will just melt? Better yet, is there a go-to kettle or pot that is used for these stove tops?

Thanks in advance.

About the only thing that will fit on top of my stove is an old army mess tin.  They are aluminium and steel, so no risk of melting.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • My sister now uses her burner instead of the oven - pick up some Le Creuset cast iron pots secondhand and the work brilliantly

Is the pan's handle thermo' or 'set plastic? I suspect the latter, so it should cope with quite a lot of heat before being affected.
Double-glazed door?! Blimey. Does that mean there's less convected heat coming up the front (compared to the back, top and sides)? If so - provided no-one bumps into it - have the handle sticking out that way. Or over the front/side edge if safer.
  • We use a camping stove kettle on top of our log burner. I've also used 'normal' saucepans with metal handles. Should think the plastic handle would be ok as long as it's not in direct contact with the heat.
