Leaking UPVC window

Our survey for the house we’re buying flagged up a rear and front window which are leaking (water on the inside sill)

We do plan to replace all the windows as many have failed double glazing but with black frames verses the current white but not until next year. Can we patch up with silicone in the meantime?

How did the surveyor know the water was from a leak, rather than (say) condensation?

It is possible you'll be able to do a temporary fix, but impossible to say for sure until the source of the water has been traced.

You could use a plastic trim and silicone, but as section says how did he know it was a leak?

When he originally did the survey it was all dry, when we went back the next week after heavy rain there was a little puddle so maybe just a reasonable guess.

if it’s just condensation I’ll be happy, one less job to do.

    Thanks for the help

    Hi

Without looking I'm quite certain that it should be an easy repair via a sealant - there may be trial and error.
When you move in, see if its condesation or more than that and then assess and temp repair

you are replacing the windows anyways, so cant go wrong just make sure you stop the leaks

About 30 years ago we bought a hose with aluminim DG slight leak inside, it was the wood but in your case they are upvc.

More recently ( few yrs ago)we had a leak on a door on a rental - it was a composite door - initially, I thought it was the rubber sealk at the bottom, but a bit of testing with water showed leak around the window cassette. I rang some DG repairs they said just seal it with sealant - did that on a warm day and never leaked again

    Thanks
