As long as the outside temp and inside start temp are close just calling for heat for 2 hrs should show if gas usage in hr 2 is more or less in hr 2, But if its too warm outside it may not use any gas in hr 2 at any flow temp.0

Right oh, some stats from the boiler flow temp experiment....and the results aren't as clear cut as I expected. Most heating periods were 2 hrs long, although with the lower flow temp, it obvs took longer to heat the house up.Therefore I recorded a couple of sessions, to see how much gas was used to get up to my desired temp.
- Return Flow Temp = measured with Brannon pipe thermometer.- Return Flow Temp = (in brackets) assumed to be the same as measured.- Outdoor Temps = Met Office.- Indoor = Hive Thermostat.- Usage = Bright App.0 -
I'll be continuing this experiment, with flow temp settings between the 3.5 and 5.0, as I hope there's a sweet spot between those settings.I won't bother posting that though, as you've all already died of boredom.2

I tried the paid for version on a free trial but it seemed to estimate cost based on this limited data. The only way of accurately measuring gas usage is therefore from the gas meter.I don't know about Hive, but the Worcester Bosch Wave thermostat can measure the actual gas usage when paired with a compatible boiler. We have one with our 7 year old Greenstar. It's not presented in the most user friendly way, giving only the total kWh for the year or a monthly graph you can count pixels on.The total is pretty accurate though, closer to the Octopus app total than the IHD, less than 2% off, likely down to different fixed CV values I'd guess.Probably not much help for OP since they don't have one, but putting it out there.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day).
