    The main difference relevant to this discussion is that if Vanguard were to go bus and their custodian were to lose all of the assets held for the ETF, you would not be eligible for FSCS compensation, whereas if that happened with a fund like your HSBC fund, you would. But as above, this is so unlikely it is ignored by many investors.

    Sorry could I also ask if the fidelity p index fund is similar to the hsbc In terms of not an etf etc?

    It's an open ended fund like the HSBC one but it tracks the MSCI World Index which is just the developed world and excludes emerging markets unlike the FTSE All World Index

    No it is not an ETF, but it only tracks developed markets, it does not include emerging markets and so is not as diversified as the HSBC fund.

    It doesn't matter where the fund house is headquartered. The domicile of the fund can most easily found by looking at the country code at the start of the fund's ISIN.
