Teesside International Airport - an absolute gem of a place to fly from

Options
By a long shot, Teesside International Airport is the best airport that I've used for many years.  It's absolutely tiny and the number of destinations that it services are limited, but if it fits your criteria, then give it a go ! Friendly people, flawless service, carparking just outside the terminal building, quality food and drink service - an absolute pleasure from start to finish.

If your default airport of choice is MAN, NCL or LBA, then MME is potentially an option that you may not have considered in the past.

Good tip..! It sounds like how Stansted and Southend airports, probably others outside London, used to be - before they were expanded and adapted to the price-gouging and user-unfriendly culture that has been forced on air travelers since.

Used to fly to LHR from Teeside for work when British Midland ( became BMI ) flew Teeside - London several times a a day ,parking was only 50p for as long as you wanted ,you could get a free drink on the plane from the drinks trolly and it was a trolly with drinks served from the bottle by the hostess ,if you flew from there we used to say " if there is a plane in its yours " as they had very few flights out .
  • Blackpool airport used to be a dream, sadly it has ceased to be!

We flew KLM to AMS and the trolley service onboard was exactly as you described.
The car parking is no longer 50p, but was very, very reasonable for our trip (unlike LBA, which is eye wateringly expensive for my next trip)

But it flies regularly to a major hub in the form of AMS. You take the risk with split tickets but if you are flying premium classes starting from AMS may be much cheaper and more than cover the cost of the flight to AMS

Absolutely. The savings by flying ex-eu can (are !) be huge.  Living where I do, I have the choice of GLA, EDI, NCL, LBA & MAN for my positioning flight/s - & my new "discovery" MME. As long as my "positioned" airport is served by KLM, its Happy Days, even if I need 2 flights to get to it.  On my recent trip, starting from CPH was much, much cheaper than from AMS (& less than half the price of starting from a UK airport).

I could have done the round trip from MME-CPH several times and it would still have cost me less than starting my trip from MAN ***

For the same reason I would recommend Bournemouth Airport. I normally use Gatwick but when I once had the chance to fly from Bournemouth it was so easy. Parking right outside the terminal, no queues for immigration, decent outlets on the departure lounge.
  • Sounds like a good old fashioned airport.  Drinks poured from a bottle, those were the days!

Unfortunately owing to my past experience with KLM I won't be using them again.

Since Doncaster closed MME is now where you need to go to see the only 727s now operating in the UK.
