Faulty diesel injector

Replace one or replace them all? Guessing they have not tested the other injectors fitted? They maybe close to needing to
be replaced or they maybe in good health. They need to check them not just say yes/no to replacing.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
You need to properly identify what is causing the problem.
Is it the injector or the wiring.
If it was mine I would swap the injector with one of the others and see if the problem moved with it.
If it did, it's the injector.
If it didn't, it's probably the wiring.
You would probably be better to let a diesel specialist do this for you.
Any new or reconditioned injector will come with new calibration codes which need to be entered into the cars powertrain ECU.
Otherwise it could still run like a bag of old bolts.
The powertrain ECU needs to know how each injector performs, so the codes tell it that.
I once spoke with a well respected diesel engineer that told me a lot of common rail injectors wear around the 80 to 100k mark and the original codes within the ECU are no longer relevant, which is why they start to play up around this time.
Way back when the 2.0 Duratorq came out (2.0 TDCi in the likes of the Mondeo), Delphi who made the injectors for it were reported to have recommended they were recalibrated at the 80k mark. Something everyone ignored due to cost.

Thanks Goudy, very interesting. It is going to the diesel specialist next week so I will see if they can follow your trouble shooting tips.0

I had an injector fail in a 1.5dci about 18 months ago. Caused the breakdown from hell. Garage replaced the broken injector and left the others alone. It hasn’t missed a beat since. On an older car I would just do what needs doing.0
