Halifax Clarity Card

well a bit shocked that halifax has forced my credit card to be closed. To be fair I only really use it on holidays abroad and have not taken much of those in 2022 but my annoyance is the way they did it. I get a text over the Christmas period that my credit limit is changing to £75 and a letter would follow and to call to discuss. I called and was told that the department that could help was closed till the new year and it should be able to be sorted as I was going abroad in February and wanted to use the card. Today got the letter not only saying they were changing the limit but closing the account. I rang and they said the system said it couldn't be changed. I asked if a human could make a sensible decision but was told the system was in charge. So my credit card is now cancelled and I feel annoyance that they did not warn me to say that if not used then this could happen. I know there may be something in the small print but who really reads all of that. I have a pension with them so now looking to see if I can move that.

  • Don't move your pension unless it benefits you.

You're taking your account closure personally which means you're about to make bad decisions.

    Don't.
  • I expect that will happened to my Clarity card, I've only spend a tenner on it last year.
Use to use it aboard, now I use either Barclaycard cashback or Aqua cashback  cards.

I got a  Clarity card mainly for foreign travel . It's not the credit card I use mainly but to avoid the problems stated, I use the Clarity card to pay for specific things like Paypal payments, Amazon and on line Grocery deliveries.
  • This happened to me with Barclaycard.  To be fair they didn't close it, they just reduced the credit limit so low as to make it useless. I only used it abroad.

I've now got a Halifax Clarity card to use abroad, but I make sure I use it 50% of the time for normal credit card spending at home.

I closed the Barclaycard myself. I would prefer to have an additional card to use abroad and would be happy to have another Barclaycard, but the eligibility checkers tell me I won't be accepted!
