What’s the etiquette for introducing yourself to the boyfriend at breakfast, if he comes down first?
Why would you not deliver tea in bed to the young couple?

    Mattress is very personal.
I've got a Relyon and its wonderful but pricey. As is the one they do in PI which are heavenly but for use until your daughter leaves home (if she's young) a cheaper one would be fine in the shorter term.
Depends whether she likes soft,, hard or in between

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Watch the film 'Trainspotting' for a good example of that.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

This thread has taken a unexpected and I think unwelcome turn. Reminds me of when two so called celebrities left puerile messages on Andrew Sachs answer phone.

My 17-year-old son asked for a double bed, I refused on the grounds of
    a. He doesn't need to be comfortable in bed, he needs to be out of it doing something to make his way in the world, and
    b. I wasn't encouraging him into turning our house into a knocking shop.

If he wants a double that badly, he can move out.

And, the OP described her daughter as a petite teenager, so quite possibly under the age of consent. Perhaps I’m just old fashioned, though.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Small double should last 2 years then review.

The key is what does she want from the room?

There is limited space, bed, desk, storage all competing for the Sam space.

So, last year, when she was around 12, she asked for a double bed?!

The question is why she asked in the first place. If she simply wants to appear grown up, and grownups have double beds, that would be fine.  However, there is a potential safeguarding issue, and I do think that you should try to find out what put the idea in her mind.

By the way, I am sorry that I answered you flippantly before.

Many kids of that age want double beds. They use their bedrooms for far more than sleeping. They are happy for hours watching TV or on social media sprawled out on the bed. Girls particularly like to have their bedrooms covered in a myriad of cushions on the bed and floor and often will have their friends around to chill. I don’t think there is anything sinister in this.
