I'm looking at RAC pay by mile but don't know much about it, is it worth doing this as i only your the car once in a while.  Does any body have this and is it worth it than normal car insurance.

I have byMiles who charge a fixed fee for no miles (perhaps £200 a year) and then typically 4p per mile - was the cheapest quote for me on a car that only does 3k miles a year.  There is also a max daily charge (150 miles) which is even better as we tend to use this car only for longer journeys.

There is also the possibility of a referral discount if you private message me.
    I think....

Depends what their base price is.

eg. If you travel 6000 miles a year.
If their base price + £240   (6000 miles x 4p) or whatever your mileage is x 4p per mile. If that is cheaper
than a standard policy then it may work for you.

For me I would have to cover less than 600 miles a year to match my current insurer.  The 150 mile limit could add some onto
that but not enough to match my current insurance price.

Certainly doesn't seem a very appealing proposition to me given my standard fully comp insurance premium was only £108 for the year anyway... barely half the base price for the pay buy mile policies before you even start to pay for any miles used!

I’m with Bymiles and they are great, £235 plus 5.4p a mile.
Max charge of £8.10p a day.
Needed to do 5 round trips to Blackpool, family stuff £8.10p per day and 600 mile trip.
The cheapest standard price for fully comp and 3000 miles was £1150.
Over 50, 10 years ncb good post code and one at fault claim.
Even with higher milage this year it should come in under £400.
Plus it’s tracking has saved me 6 times so far, parking tickets, cloned plate etc. Dartford crossing fine, supermarket ticket,
    Tfl congestion charge.

How does it compare to a regular policy?

For some people, a per mile one could save a fortune, for others it'll cost a fortune.
