So over £200 in total - which incidentally is my monthly DD. Not an insignificant amount. As this obviously goes to my account as credit, I'm not going to push the issue, especially with further increases on the horizon. However this could be quite a few grocery shops for other families and if it proves to be a very common issue, it's just not right.2022 was very mild compared to average. So, most people would have used less than expected.
Your figures indicate your supplier is in the correct ballpark and that is good to see.

No smart meters here so everything is based on monthly customer reader submissions.
I ended up using 6547 kWh of gas in 2022. EDF's annual consumption estimate on my recent December bill is 6587 kWh so only 40 kWh difference.
For electricity I have only been with my current supplier for five months so they have used an average usage of 2900 kWh as their annual consumption estimate. In reality I used 1144 kWh in 2022.
As I pay by whole amount monthly direct debit on both accounts their estimates have no impact on my finances.

Our estimated annual usage from Octopus is 600kWh less than our past year's actual usage. The algorithm must be taking into account our attempts at reduction, only 4 months in (nothing huge, but enough to be making a difference - though the mild winter has obviously helped too).1

I haven't bothered checking what Octopus have for my estimates, as it usually evens out somewhere during the year.I'd have been way way way out with my usage for 2022 though. It's been between 11449-13352kWh for 2018-2021, yet 2022 = 8563.Over the years I've increased the loft insulation, and had a Hive fitted to replace the basic twist/dial thermostat, and I think 2022 was a lot milder on the whole, but that's a saving of between £300-£500 at my current rates.Yes, I'm very conscious of the price rises too, but I've definitely not been scrimping on my heating.1
