Obtaining new mobile contract on DRO

Hi all. I broke my phone some time ago and have been borrowing one from a family member, and my provider is now saying I’m due for an upgrade. It would be nice to get my own phone and give back the one I’ve borrowed. Would taking out this credit effect my DRO? I understand you have to tell the lender about it, if you obtain credit over £500. Is this the only stipulation? That the lender needs to know?

thanks all

    Yes, that's it.

Talk to your provider and answer the questions honestly.

Let us know how you get on

Hi fatbelly, thanks for getting back to me. I checked this with both StepChange and National debtline. I’m going to go for it - regain a bit of independence! Will report back whether I’m approved.

So they’ve not asked me any questions - they put a note on my account though. Will this be enough? I know the upgrade will go through because they don’t credit check. I don’t want to fall foul of the Insolvency Service though

The Insolvency Service will have no interest in your phone contract.

    Well done

Is this the case even though it’s being taken out during the DRO 12 month period? If so, happy days. Excited to have a smidgen or something that is mine, paid by me lol

Yes, there's very little you can do to screw up a DRO as long as you stay within the basic criteria
