Can anyone recommend a short break to Amsterdam?  I'm using Newcastle airport.
Yes, Amsterdam is a very interesting city, loads to see and do, and the Dutch usually speak excellent English. Although from what I've heard the red light district isn't as "interesting" as it was a few decades ago!!
From Newcastle another option to consider rather than flying is a mini cruise on the DFDS ferry, these can be good value although not sure how long you get there.

Thank you zagfles, hoping to find a 'package' as I've become a bit nervous of doing it myself with Airbnb due to the recent scams.  I've been to Amsterdam three times - twice with students in the late 80's, and once with my husband early 90's. I'm sure there will be lots of changes.

This time I'd be going alone, hopefully to meet up with my best friend and her partner over there.

I'm wary of Airbnb, but flights+booking.com or similar I do all the time (please note I do have travel related financial interests but not in Booking Holdings, I am a member of their loyalty scheme though).

Make sure you only ever pay through the official platform or in cash on arrival and generally you are completely fine. From experience, as long as you check reviews and photos there is little to worry about, especially in a mainstream destination like Amsterdam.
