Council Tax class F exemption

Does anyone know whether one's able to extend the class F exemption for council tax beyond the 6 month period after probate has been granted, and if not, can I claim the single person discount for occupying the property as a beneficiary, even though the property has yet to be transferred?

This might be something I will be faced with fairly soon.
How about this ?

May also very much depend on your local council's policy as well.

If you solely occupy the property then you should qualify for the SPD. Liability is based on occupation: who owns the property is not relevant. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Is this your only property? If you have another then SPD unlikely to be possible, one would be classed as a second home. I guess if it is different authorities then it might be possible to get away with it but the only person I know in a similar situation found it was not possible.0

How long have you been occupying the property? The F exemption does not apply if the house is occupied.0

That's just referring to the class F exemption period, which I've already gone past.greyteam1959 said:This might be something I will be faced with fairly soon.

Mine too. The exemption ended on Dec 28, and they were very quick to send my a letter asking for the remaining payments for the 22/23 tax year.p00hsticks said:macman said:Liability is based on occupation: who owns the property is not relevant.Unless of course no-one is occupying the property - in which case the liability reverts to the owner. The local council I was dealing with were very quick to start charging council tax again as soon as the six months past probate exemption was up.0 -

You can't claim the single person discount if you are not actually occupying the property.
