What are bungalow legs/knees please @foxgloves? All sounding good; we're getting ready to do the thunder and lightning polka here. Looking forward to hearing more about The Move as plans firm up. Onwards and upwards love Humdinger xx

On the subject of relocating and stairlifts I hadn't realised until 4 years ago that if a set of stairs has a bend in then the curved part makes the whole thing more expensive and slows the journey time down. I also hadn't realised how frustratingly slow they are to use. I think I was hoping for the one that goes really fast like in Gremlins! The other thing we started looking into when house hunting last year was whether there was room to put a lift in. They are about 4 - 6 times the cost of a stair lift though at about £20k. A wide straight staircase with secure handrails on either side seems to be ideal in terms of future proofing for a stairlift. My family chose a house where the stairs turned around in the middle so that a fall wasn't as far down but it has since resulted in a slower, more expensive stair lift install.

We relocated to north west Wales a few years ago. My preferred new home was an old cottage - definitely NOT a bungalow, despite our advancing years. After a long search in our preferred area, we did buy a bungalow, but as it is almost 100 years old, it has more character than a modern one. We just could not ignore the lovely sea view and wonderful sunsets. Although no stairs in the bungalow, our home is built on a very steep slope with steps in front & back gardens. Gardening on a steep sloping garden is very good exercise!

Many of the smaller properties in particular were holiday homes, but changing rules means that many of these are now being sold.
