It’s been a mixture of sunshine and showers here with a downpour around 6pm. I managed to get a line of washing dry and did a fair bit of gardening.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

I wonder if there's hope for me too with cryptic crosswords? I somehow doubt it. My mum was brilliant at crosswords but I never got the hang of the cryptic ones. I'm listening to an Inspector Morse book at the moment and Chapter 2 starts with a crossword clue "will get excited with a ring seat" (10). No idea at all what that could be but hope it's not rude now I've posted it on your diary. 🥴5

@ziggy2407 - You clever trousers you! That will, surely be correct, as Morse was an opera fan, I think?

@ziggy2407 - you are so clever! As Foxgoves says Morse was a Wagner fan and Chapter 2 is about his trip to the opera. I would never, ever have solved that clue.5

Hello BH Savers,
Decent day on the whole, in which budget-friendly bits have been:
*A no-spend day
*Finished all the foot shaping on B-i-L's sock
*Good teamwork with Mr F making a support for our blackberry using those steam bent double bamboo canes. Dosed it with free liquid worm food.
*A good bending & stretching session for me digging out hawkweed (what a pernicious spreader that thing is) & forking over the cleared area ready for planting homegrown summer bedding this week.
*Mr F fed the cucumbers & strawberry plants.
*Did most of this week's laundry & pegged it out for free drying.
*Divvied up yesterday's leftover roast lamb. It did a nice Sunday roast. Will also get 4 portions of lamb bhuna (currently simmering on the hob), 2 portions of spicy pilaf & 2 portions of Epic Man Stew, so I think 10 decent portions from a £15 leg of lamb is reasonable. Have also saved bones for stock.
Intending a relaxing evening, bubble bath & early night as have been staying up later the last few days & I defo feel more tired because of this. I am defo a morning person.

Had to google Hawkweed … and … as soon as I saw it, I was nodding sagely in shared experience! I don’t mind it in the lawns which are shaggy, mossy and full of wildlings 😉🤷♀️ but not in the ornamental beds! 😊
Hope you enjoy your relaxing soak 😊

@KajiKita - Pretty wildflowers when growing on verges, but a damn nuisance in my borders. It wasn't a weed I'd encountered at my last house, so the first Spring we were here & it started popping up everywhere, I had to look it up & find out exactly what it was. It's persistent & I haven't had a single year where I am not digging it out. It got even more prolific last summer, when our neighbour removed 2/3 of an old adjoining privet hedge & replaced with a fence. I have got used to the fence, replanted the border & it looks really attractive (both to me & the bees!) but the additional light available now that the dark old privet has gone has galvanised all those little bits of hawkweed roots under the surface into action & it is popping up like mad. Once I have got on top of the veg garden & getting bedding planted out, I can concentrate on maintenance & tackle a few areas a week, but atm, the endless rain is hampering my efforts & helping the bloody hawkweed take over. Like bindweed, if a teensy little piece of root gets left behind, it soon chucks up a new plantlet. Truly classic example of a 'weed' being a plant in the wrong place!
