Adding to the delivery stories...one dark and stormy night long years ago, not long before Christmas, we were sitting in the kitchen. The door opened - no time wasted in knocking or ringing - and the delivery man marched in and tossed the parcel to me. Silent throughout, he retraced his steps and was gone, driving like a bat out of hell. I felt sorry for him as he was clearly under enormous pressure but still...

That's interesting about etch a sketch as my mother, an artist, did not think DS should have one. Me, definitely not an artist did not see why not, DS was unimpressed. It was interesting in that grandmother, mother & DS all artists, it skipped a generation as my sister & I are definitely not. The only piece of art I ever did that got a half way decent mark was done using a pair of compasses & definitely NO paint. Three cooling towers never now to be seen, but they were real well 60 odd years ago.

On a separate note, not having remembered the anklet Bible reference from my youth , I went and looked it up - it's Isiah Chapter 3:18 in case anyone is curious, from the old testament. All I can say is wow - what an interpretation! 🤣 Every day is a school day with you, ladies!
Etch-a-sketch - wow what memories of a beloved toy came flooding back! Somehow I don't remember owning one but do remember playing with one for hours on end. I don't remember it being frowned upon growing up in a house of math and science types, but as art and music was a huge part of my upbringing however, there were always items for drawing and painting and all things creative, that were readily accessible and encouraged as worthwhile pursuits!
@foxgloves - your diary always has such lovely discussions on it - feels like we've all stopped in for a virtual cuppa and a natter!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Certainly remember clackers though I knew them as kerknockers too I think. They were lethal if you got hit by them. Not sure we had elf and safety back in the seventies5

Clackers were indeed a dangerous toy. There's probably a whole generation with damaged knuckles from our clackers endeavours. They were a must have toy and I recall spending lots of time jiggling and clacking and yelping with pain.
@PennysIntoPounds - I will confess to being much less familiar with Old Testament scripture so I must have missed the parable of the etch a sketch. Mea culpa10 -
I remeber the outcry when clackers came to popularity. They were banned from schools. I seem to remeber dd wanting some but I flatly refused but them I also refused things like furbys. I didnt want her to be one that had to have all the latest things plus we couldnt afford them. I dont think it has done her any harm.

Hello Saturday Readers,
Thanks for all your comments, which I have enjoyed reading. Generally, we were not allowed what I would describe as 'craze' toys - I think if I had been a parent, I would have adopted a similar approach, actually.
Anyway, just a very quick one from me today. Successful town trip. Needed so little that we parked on a supermarket car park which avoided a charge. Bought the final Christmas gift - one which has been on pre-order for months has apparently now been dispatched, so the only other things are finishing the pair of socks I'm knitting for Mr F & making a batch of fudge for my sis-in-law.
Have done a couple of surveys. I hope at least one or two of our number on here managed to get onto the £15 one on PA - it was still showing as available a few mins ago. I decided not to do it as it is an hour & I have promised myself an afternoon sitting in our sunny lounge window with my book.
No other spending looks likely for this weekend & it looks as though November's grocery spend has come in at a mind-bendingly enormous underspend of.........75p. Go us with our meal plans & carefully curated lists, lol!
Off to eat toast,

Don’t go mad with that 75p now 😆 Any underspend is a good achievement no matter how small.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)7

Ha ha 75p …. Great to come under budget, even by any small amount. I only sept £75 on food this month so far as had some great Olio collections. Partner does a bit shopping too, but he tends to buy luxury items which I can live without - although I have been known to partake in eating some 🤣
today I conquered the long journey expensive munchies, by taking a small picnic and flask. Enjoyed my break halfway, and popped into charity shop to stretch my legs. So happy with that small win…. No money spent and healthy snack.Busy knitting a hat for the “care leavers Christmas lunch day” when everyone who goes to lunch takes a new hat or scarf home that has been donated.11
