I vaguely remember seeing posts that some energy suppliers have been offering customers cash incentives to have smart meters installed.

Have I imagined this or am I correct ?

I'm considering having them installed but would obviously prefer to get paid for doing so if this is still an option.

Thanks in advance

I did read on here that E.on/Sainsbury's Energy were offering some people £50.  If I'd known that I would have held off getting them installed and waited for the cash offer.  I am very disappointed in having them.  I had electricity one installed and my display worked fine, since getting the gas one installed, the display now shows "awaiting data" for both electricity and gas. They are sending readings through to both supplier but I am left in the dark a bit about my consumption unless I waste time with a calculator.

Download the free App BRIGHT and you will see your smart meter data.

There can be problems when meters are installed at different times. Are both your meters SMETS2? You could try asking your supplier to make a request to the DCC for a remote reset of your communications hub.

Hi.  Many thanks for this, I will download that app you mention.  Yes they are both type 2 meters.

I don't know of anyone who has been paid to have smart meters installed, but equally I don't know of anyone who has paid to have them installed. Except of course, all consumers are ultimately paying for the smart meter roll-out, whether or not you get them.
The benefit will be that more suppliers are introducing Time-Of-Use tariffs, which do require a smart meter, plus you get accurate bills with functioning smart meters.
@rothesay, you can use phone apps to get data about your usage, if you want more data than your online account gives you. "Bright" appears to be the most popular one.

Thanks.  I'm sure there were other companies too offering payment in order for them to meet their targets.

It is good to know though.

The French are also offering an incentive. They are applying an additional charge when consumers decline the offer of a smart meter.

It might have been me that you saw. Sainsbury's Energy / Eon next offered me £50 per fuel credit by letter, to get smart meters fitted. Appointment was on the 20th Dec and he only fitted the electric one as he concluded the gas signal wouldn't reach the electric meter.

No credit so far, but its early days. I need to phone them as my IHD isn't working, so may take the opportunity to ask about my £50.

when there were fixes available (if you can remember that far) there was also cashback and cheaper rates from some companies for switching to them on the condition you got a smart meter installed.

that's kind of the same thing and might come back if the market settles down in the next couple of years (big if).
