Giving Up/Cutting Down Alcohol Thread part 18

That's really quite poor - you can't assume everyone is willing/able to drink, what if someone is on particular meds, or is a recovering alcoholic? or just doesn't really like alcohol for whatever reason? It just makes it really awkward. I think there should always be an alcohol-free option.marahouti said:Good afternoon everyone. X

Sometimes I think that not drinking alcohol is accepted and 'normal', other times not so much 😕. We have a new family in our road and they invited us into their garden for a drink. Very neighbourly of them, except they had beers, lagers, ciders and wine of all sorts but nothing alcohol free at all not even a tin of Diet Coke or a lemonade! I gratefully accepted one of their four year old's Fruit Shoots. Said four year old didn't look very happy so we didn't stay for a second drink 😂.5 -
I'd say that's quite unusual to have nothing non-alcoholic available at all @marahouti even though you were neighbours so unlikely to be driving home.
We had a friend call in last weekend. I knew he wouldn't want an alcoholic drink as he was driving but conversation turned to him telling us that he and his wife had given up completely. I knew they'd both stopped during a recent period of ill health and meds but having decided they didn't miss it they've chosen to give up.
That was fine as had plenty of juice, squash etc to offer. 👍
Poor child though. ☹️🤣6 -

Your story about stealing a 4 year old's fruit shoot just made me laugh out loud as well!
I'm on day 11 please @cathybird
Thanks

To be fair it was quite impromptu. My husband and I were coming back from a walk and passed our neighbour in his front garden. He said they were trying out their new patio furniture and would we like to join them for a drink? I would imagine that if it had been a planned invitation with perhaps other guests there probably would have been an AF option. They were a bit embarrassed and flustered when I said I wasn't drinking at present and offered me the Fruit Shoot although I would have been happy with a glass of water 🙂 It was actually very refreshing and I must stress there seemed to be several in the fridge so I didn't snatch it from the mouth of the child 😂.maman said:I'd say that's quite unusual to have nothing non-alcoholic available at all @marahouti even though you were neighbours so unlikely to be driving home.

I didn't laugh either. Not much. Well, maybe a little - or a lot. Poor little soul - and you stole his drink!sunshine_raincloud said:

8/20 for me today, please
About 8 cousins are gathering for dinner tomorrow evening, and I have volunteered to pick my sister up and drive us there - so I'll get a sneaky AF day. One of the cousins is home from NZ.What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?6
