1. You should use a benefits calculator to see if you are eligible for UC and Council Tax Reduction. If you live with a partner any entitlement is based on your joint circumstances. When your SSP entitlement ends, if you are still unwell, you can claim new style ESA. If you claim both UC and ESA the ESA is deducted from the UC.
Note that, if you claim UC or ESA, and you are receiving, expecting to receive, or recovering from radiotherapy or chemotherapy you should be immediately referred for a Work Capability Assessment and are automatically treated as having Limited Capability for Work and Work Related Activity.this entitles you to extra money after three months on UC and after 14 weeks on ESA.
2. Regards NI, when your SSP ends you can contact HMRC and they can add NI credits to your record.(I’ve never understood why people receiving SSP aren’t automatically given credits.)You’re on Statutory Sick Pay and you do not earn enough to make a qualifying year
Apply for Class 1 credits. Write to: PT Operations North East England, HM Revenue and Customs, BX9 1AN, United Kingdom. Include your National Insurance number and say when the credits are for and why you’re eligibleInformation I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -
