Royal Mail Problems

Options
I've complained to R.M over the years about missing mail. I sense the postman cannot see when it comes to reading - he definitely needs reading specs. I know this because he was delivering a recorded delivery letter not that long ago, when he said - I can't see where to scan....oh, there it is. Letters that were posted on 05/12/22 haven't arrived. Does anyone know if it's possible to get a meeting with the sorting office manager? I've tried going there in person (once) but when I asked to speak with the manager, he was 'busy' and didn't call me back when I left my phone-number with the guy at the desk. I understand the issue with strikes, xmas etc. but mail that was posted on 08/12/22 arrived within 5 days of posting. Both posting dates were of letters posted by the same company.

I can't see a reason for complaint because he said ' I can't see where to scan....oh, there it is.' We all have moments like that.
As for something posted on the 5th not arriving - that would be xmas and strikes.

If you want to talk to manager. Then best bet is to go to local sorting office & ask there.

    Hello OP

Once mail is delayed Royal Mail isn’t in a hurry to deliver it as they focus on getting the new mail in the system delivered on time so it’s not uncommon for mail posted later to be delivered first.

Mail from the 5th should have been delivered by now, is this goods you’ve ordered online, something personal from family, etc or something else? Do you know which services were used or have any tracking?

If you have regular issues with mail going missing it will likely be the local delivery office end, popping back in Jan and asking for a chat with the manager can’t hurt but I’d avoid mentioning the “reading” issue and ideally just give the info on the mail that’s already gone missing in the past and ask what can be done to prevent it occurring in the future.  :)

OP says they’ve already tried that.
However I’m curious to know why they think it’s the postie’s fault rather than things getting lost in the system, and (one letter mid strike aside) is much of a problem have you had over the last 12 months?
No point complaining about missing post a few years ago if it’s not happening anymore.

possibly very sexist of me but this is what I refer to as "male pattern blindness".  It's the sort of thing my OH says when standing in front of a cupboard but can't see the one tin right at the front.

my understanding of the earlier stuff still not having arrived is that some days backlog have just been set aside so they can keep up with the more recently posted items.  Something to do with RM getting fined for any one day that has delayed delivery.  So better to get 1 fine for the 5th rather than more fines for the 6th, 7th, 8th etc

The person delivering the mail can only deliver what has arrived in the sorting office.  I posted items in early December which were only delivered a couple of days ago.  It's inevitable also that a lot will never be delivered given the massive backlog.
  • I ordered a birthday card for my son from Moonpig on 30th November. It arrived on Thursday just past. There’s lots of delays at the moment. I won’t comment on the postie needing specs as I can’t see any relevance to the issues you’re having.
