Please can anyone help? I want to make a uniform wash bag, so my daughter can store a dirty uniform without contaminating her bag. Needs to be washable at 60 degrees.

Just need some advice on fabric. I don’t want it to crease and add to ironing. It will be washed regularly, so nothing too flimsy either.

Hoping to order the fabric online. Any help with suitable fabric and gsm I should be looking for?

Presumably cotton or polycotton with at least 50% cotton content.
I wash my bedding at 60 degrees- never iron it 'though I daresay it would like to be ironed. If you pull the fabric taught when it comes out of the washing machine it shouldn't look too crumpled.

Could you adapt an existing pillowcase rather than buy fabric specially? Or a pillowcase as a trial run.

  • I would probably go for quilting cotton or a medium weight denim. Does it need a waterproof liner?

No liner required, I think the idea is that the uniform and bag go straight into the wash together.

Are you going to do something like a drawstring bag?

I think at the temperature you need to kill bugs you will need poly cotton for the reasons stated.
If need be the uniform could go in a carrier bag/large plastic bag and put inside the cloth one. Tipped out into the machine so it's not touched, carrier if necessary, thrown away.
