Can I paint without sanding

I'm looking to change the colour of the wardrobes from gloss to a white Matt to refresh them. Can I get away with painting over or do I need to sand and repaint.

Well, call me a perfectionist but the only way you're going to do a half decent job of this is to remove the doors and all fittings, scrub clean and dust all surfaces, then spray paint them.
Anything else will just look pants. And not very nice pants at that.
My advice? Don't do it. Just clean 'em.
Melamine covered items like this don't need refreshing, they need kept and cleaned occasionally or thrown out.7 -
Not used myself but try on a small area

Owatrol Easy Surface Prep. Wipe on/ wipe off after leaving at least 5 mins. Allow to dry for min 2hrs/ max 7 days - paint or spray.1

Yes, I use zinnser 123 water based primer.. No sanding needed and it's so good!
Alternatively try furniture paint like frenchic.1 -
I found that the ‘shabby chic’ trend is an excellent excuse for a less than perfect finish. You do at least need to give it a good clean though.1

Five days before xmas day, we was all blue. Xmas day all warm clay colour, 2 coats both sides. No sanding, no primer or undercoat required....just a clean, degreased with sugar soap.Highly recommended stuff by me. Just 2 x 750ml tins used and goes on beautifully. Rustoleum cupboard paint. They also do furniture paint... could be the same stuff ?

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

I've bought some Bedec Multi Surface Paint Satin White 750ml | Toolstation which works on Melamine.
I'd like to blend the wall paint with the wardrobes colour, can I just paint on top of this paint once dry.0 -
Your doors don't need sanding, Justin, but they do need to be clean - a few options given above.
Then either prime first (eg Zinsser) and finish with any durable paint, or else a specialist, self-priming paint applied straight on (eg Bedec, Zinsser AllCoat, etc).
I'd use a mini foam roller for such large flat areas - you should be able to get a very acceptable finish. Perhaps experiment on the inside door surface for amount of paint applied (usually light coats are best), and roller pressure. You might find that pressing too firmly can produce tiny bubbles on the surface, but light going-overs will burst and flatten then off.
And, best done laid flat if possible. These paints do tend to dry quickly, so perhaps two doors at a time each day if space is limited.1
