New engine, keep or get rid
I’m picking my almost three year old car back from the dealers where it’s been for nearly three weeks, it went in initially for a noise in the engine bay, it sounded to me like a dry/noisy pulley, and indeed, it was diagnosed as such,( crankshaft pulley replaced), , the dealer ( ford) rang to say that this hadn’t cured it and they seem to think that it was some sensors/solenoids that control the tappets ( cylinder de- activation?) and these parts weren’t available even on back order, so given this, and the cost, they decided to replace the complete engine, brand new from the factory, so, the warranty ends in January and so does any warranty with this new engine, so, given that my car is high spec low miles 22k, I will have virtually a brand new car, but,I’m not sure whether to just px it for something else…any thoughts?

If the new engine doesn't come from Ford with a warranty beyond the life of the original one can't you insist that the dealer provides one for an additional period? With that in place I'd probably want to keep the car for long enough to ensure there are no further issues, if you try to sell it as soon as the engine replaces any buyer is likely to be wary and offer less than it's worth.

But there’s no register of a new engine having been fitted , it’s only on fords database0

The engine number won't match the car when people physically check it over.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0

Plus when any body looks under the bonnet the new engine will stand out.0

Generally, when goods are replaced or repaired under warranty, those goods are normally only warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period and I would be very surprised if a replacement engine was any different.SiliconChip said:If the new engine doesn't come from Ford with a warranty beyond the life of the original one can't you insist that the dealer provides one for an additional period?2

If I was you I would speak with the dealer with a view of paying say £100 towards the cost. When I was a Ford Warranty Manager I often did this.

The RK has to advise the DVLA of the new engine number, and get an amended V5C.MovingForwards said:Alanp said:But there’s no register of a new engine having been fitted , it’s only on fords database

The real question is when were you planning to sell the car if all was OK.
I personally would be thrilled to have a 3 year old car with new engine. Do these engines have known faults?0

I normally keep 3 to 4 years anyway, engine is fords ecoboost, mild hybrid, ( puts on tin hat) early cars had faults with the degas pipes that failed and lost all the coolant thus wrecking engines, mine was just a weird noise..Flight3287462 said:The real question is when were you planning to sell the car if all was OK.
