Payrise Advise

Options
Hello All,

I have been working for my company for the past 10 years and in total 14 years for the client as I have been through 2 TUPE . Throughout this long 10 years i never got
an official payrise beside the yearly bonus of 1- 1.5% and £ 500 increase 4 years ago due to an award I got nominated for by the company itself not my manager. I have attempted to ask a payrise few times in the past but i never been successful because my manager never liked me and tried her best to push me out strategically on so many occasions which affected by self confidence a lot. During Covid lockdown, i was the only one who worked in my department for 6 months straight as my colleagues did not get a laptop .One got paid 100% for  6 months and half and the other one for 9 months while i was working every single day.  Also for the past year , I have been working alone with no help when my colleague is on holiday which happened 6 weeks a year and we are short staffed but recruitment is frozen. As i do not trust my manager and i wanted to write an email with various bullet points to justify the payrise and cc her boss and also the Big boss (because she is very much protected by her boss) to make sure she will reply to me as very often she ignores my email  .The point is also If anyone will start working in my department now, they will be earning more than me with 14 years service which is even more disheartening. I do like my jobs and i have good relationship with clients as well as give me the freedom to have a life because i do not want life-work balance

Any advise will be appreciate it

Thank you in advance

Thank you @Emmia, I had few issues with my health which set me back to be honest and i understand your point of view .My job evolved a lot throughout the years and we have been merged with several other department so i learnt new skills and changed tasks so i felt i was still growing . Also it is not so easy to change job as I am in my early 40s not  so i do believe  there is discrimination about age although they want to advertise about inclusion , diversity etc.

Notwithstanding your health issues, I think if you don't feel you can move jobs in your early 40's or that you're too old to move (when there's 25+ years to state pension age / retirement) then you're a bit sunk in terms of them valuing you for the type of payrise you're seeking.

Why (apart from your loyalty to your employer, and 14 years service) do you think they should pay you more?

@Emmia Thanks for responding. I do genuinely think i deserve a payrise , i mentioned some of the reasons in my original post and I have proof i took additional responsibilities and have evidence of feedbacks from clients . I am not just asking for the sake of the long term service or inflation but the real issue here is I do not have the support of my manager and i need to address the request to her .As i am working remotely , should i  copy her boss and above as she always caused me so many issues throughout the years and on  many occasion she did not respond to my emails?

In many workplaces, an escalation to the boss's boss and the boss's boss's boss would back-fire

Ask for the salary of your role to be benchmarked against the market. If they won’t do that then look for a new job.

The fact they are short staffed, and others were on the payroll but not really working during Covid lockdowns doesn't unfortunately justify a raise for you.

You worked as you were contracted to, for the rate which you've agreed to be paid... what others do or don't do has no bearing on your justification for a raise. Additionally, your boss seemingly doesn't rate/like you, and they are the one who would argue your case for a raise with senior management.

Can you not work remotely? Being present and seen in the office can make you more visible as a valuable member of staff - especially if senior managers wander past... remote working (especially if you're in a team where others work in the office) makes you / your work / contribution to the team less visible.

As @Grumpy_chap says emailing, copying in all of senior management is likely to backfire badly for you.

@JReacher1 I know for a fact that if someone will start new will be on at least £ 1200 more than me .Based on the experience i should earn at least 2 k more but i am not sure if it is professional to quote this in the email or not and how should I approach it

@Grumpy_chap So how do you suggest i approach the situation? What if i send it to my manager only and she does not reply ?

@Emmia We are all working remotely in my team. My presence in the office is not related to anything you have mentioned and will not make any difference in regards of getting noticed by senior management as it never did in the past.
I am extremely grateful to work from home as with the current inflation, I will not be able to pay the expensive commuting if i have to go to the office .
My salary is too low and i can just barely pay my rent and bills. My hourly rate is only £ 2 more than the minimum hourly rate .

@Michey78 if you've raised the payrise question with your manager, and have been rebuffed, and they don't like you, your only option is leaving.

Sorry, it isn't the answer you want.

I wouldn't mention this at all. It has nothing to do with your payrise at all, so don't even mention it.
