Moving home, Sky broadband not available

Options
Hi all, I wondered if anyone could help. I currently have sky broadband, tv and talk, no longer in the contract period. But we are moving house at the end of January. I was going to call and threaten to cancel to get a better deal soon anyway.

Sky contacted me to let me know the people moving into ours had been in touch to take over the line and see if we wanted to move sky broadband to our new house. However when they checked the address they said the couldn’t provide it for some reason.

Can I get broadband from BT and then get a TV package from Sky? I don’t need sky talk as we never use house phone.

Also would I need to get a bt landline to get sky tv? Can’t see that id need a landline for anything else.

Sky uses the same infrastructure for broadband as everybody else on a BT line for broadband/ADSL/FTTC.  So if you can't get it in the new house that implies there isn't a BT line there (or it isn't connected at the exchange).  There shouldn't be an issue having a new line installed if that's what it needs.  This will apply regardless of who you go with.

Suggest you see if Sky can arrange for a new line to be installed if that's what it needs.  If not any other BT line provider should be able to do it.

Sky TV does not need a BT landline.  On-demand/Catch-Up requires a internet connection of some sort, but how this is established the box does not care.

Thanks, I put the address into virgins website and it seems to suggest I could get that, could it be that it’s a virgin line?

All that means is Virgin supplies your area.

if you want to go with a BT line provider, pick somebody and give them your address during the sign-up process.  Just because Sky say they "don't supply" doesn't mean diddly-squat, it's more likely it was home time for whoever you spoke to and they just wanted you off the line.
