Recently moved in (6 Months ago). During the recent heavy rain we noticed the roof had some internal damage and possible external damage.

We can't put the upstairs lighting on now as it trips out because of a light in the loft having water damage and worried it will get worse.

Can we claim on our home insurance on the repairs to the roof?

  • You'll need to refer to your policy documents for your home insurance to check what is and isn't covered... it should be clearly set out there.

What did your full building survey say about the condition of the roof ?
What has caused this damage / leak ?

Only if you can link it to an insured peril (eg storm, impact damage, fire etc) that's happened since you bought the policy.

Insurance isnt a maintenance plan so if its just the roof is old and starting to wear out then that's not an insured peril.
