So when it rains, the water can't soak in to the ground naturally. Suitable drainage must be installed or the water runs off and (potentially) leads to flooding in the neighbourhood.

OP, drainage should be as much a concern as appearance of the driveway, the amount of rain we have had here today and the widespread traffic disruption is another reminder of how important it is not to add to the problem.
I wonder if we will see a time when insurance companies charge more for properties with driveways that are impervious as at the end of the day the insurance industry foots large bills for flooding.1 -
Block paving looks great but can require a bit of looking after. Mine could do with a clean after 5 years or so.
Resin needs less maintenance, but looks rubbish.0 -
