My gas usage was: 2019: 3,561 kWh, 2020: 3,710 kWh, 2021: 3,426 kWh.
My expected usage for December 2022 is 3,400 kWh, although I have invested in making savings. I appear to have failed.
Has this December been unusually good or unusually bad in terms of heating demand?

I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

Mine is up slightly from 2021 and still 3 days to go1

yes we have also seen an increase since last year. some of that is because we have the mil living with us for the last 3 weeks as her house is hard and expensive to heat. so our heating has been higher than we would have it if it was just us and the kids. but with our gas being higher the work we've done to keep on top of our electric use seems to have paid off at least.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.1 -

Nothing changed within household people wise.
Only difference this year is that heating is set to just 2 times 07:00 to 21:45 @ 19C & 21:45 to 07:00 @ 17C. Does get the odd boost to 20C if really cold, & new small radiator just behind front door to warm between there & another door, as this was always a cold area, which bled into the rest of the house as you went in/out.
2021 was set with more temp changes during the day. 4 I think.
So from a heating perspective a more constant temp = lower costs to me.

Certainly affected by the sub zero 3rd week.
Tumble dryer is the culprit for electric. But with being so wet, no other choice.Life in the slow lane0 -

24 days into the billing period is seeing a gas increase of 23% (86m3) from this time last year. It would have been worse but we are now into zoning and insulating in a big way. Even so, we were using about 25m3 of gas a day and everyone was still moaning about being cold!
My Octo-Aid app is forecasting a spend for December that is 4 times what I spent last year. At least in 2021, we were all very comfortable.3 -
As the average daily temperature in December was 2 degrees lower in 2022 than 2021 in my area, it's not a like for like comparison. We used less gas this year, 3,827kW/h in 2022 vs 4,020kW/h in 2021. The reduction is thanks to lowering the target temperature 1 degree, being smarter with heating settings and boiler flow temp and huddling in the warmest rooms during the cold snap and not heating the coldest room (my office) to 18C.1

My records show last December as being the warmest of the last 5 years, so possibly not the best one to compare with. My gas usage for the previous 3 December's was....
2020 - 1,763 kWh's.
2021 - 565 kWh's.
I penned in to use 600 kwh's this December hoping it would be a mild like it was in Dec 2021... However December 2022 I've used 1,030 kWh's .... But I had 3 weeks of really cold weather..... -2°C to -5°C at night and -2°C to +3°C in the days.
As I mentioned in a previous post I hope to pull that back in January/ February.... Fingers crossed it's mild... But I would like some snow.1 -
Dec 21 331kwh electric
Dec 22 290kwh electric - no gas
Compared to November our consumption has increased by 50kwh, this is due to eldest being home from uni and the gaming PC back in action, as well as youngest playing on the x-box significantly more over the holidays. 2 sets of Christmas lights and my oven being on far more than usual.
