Ovo, taking my credit balance
Hi
Ovo, who have taken over SSE, are seemingly claiming the £67 fuel help from the government and passing the money onto its customers, but are then DEDUCTING IT FROM YOUR CREDIT BALANCE. This is a massive scam, I have heard of other people questioning the same thing. I have screen shots...
They have issued a case number and agreed it isn't right, they are looking into it, but how many people aren't checking what's going on and are having their credit balances dipped into because OVO are giving them the government gelp in one hand, and taking that money off them in the other???

It isn't a massive scam.
It'll be an error or a misunderstanding on your part.
Probably the latter.0 -
If true, it would be fraud which has criminal implications. In my experience, these types of things fit into the c****p rather than the conspiracy category. It is worth bearing in mind that most supplier billing systems were never designed to deal with such things as the Energy Bill Support Scheme or Energy Price Guarantee.ovosucks said:HiOvo, who have taken over SSE, are seemingly claiming the £67 fuel help from the government and passing the money onto its customers, but are then DEDUCTING IT FROM YOUR CREDIT BALANCE. the way they calculate is confusing as to why they have to include the £66/67 at all

I think the bills can be overly complicated to read.ovosucks said:HiOvo, who have taken over SSE, are seemingly claiming the £67 fuel help from the government and passing the money onto its customers, but are then DEDUCTING IT FROM YOUR CREDIT BALANCE. What does it say on the bill?
You should see a line that says refunds or credit may say -£67 or £67 out
Do you see this on yours?
You should also see a credit a few days later to your bank account that has the direct debit for OVO. Though it may take up to 8 days for it to appear. (Not sure why it takes so long as other things can be same day or 1 to 2 days.)0 -
This is what it says on the bill, why they have to do a + 66 and -66 is anybody's guess

The left column showing "Energy Bill Support Scheme -£66" shows them crediting your account with the money from the government. Then on the right column showing "Refunds 4th November £66 out" is them showing that they've paid this money back to your bank account.MikeJXE said:This is what it says on the bill, why they have to do a + 66 and -66 is anybody's guess
The other way to look at it is to use the starting balance to check the transactions to see if the closing balance matches:
£80.64 in credit (+)
-£35.62 Cost of electricity (-)
-£63.61 Cost of gas (-)
-£4.96 VAT (-)
+£66.00 Energy Bill Support Scheme (+)
+£56.00 your payment 28 Oct (+)
+£35.00 your payment 28 Oct (+)
-£66.00 Refund to your bank 4 Nov (-)
Leaving +£67.45 credit to be carried forward.
Original Debt £37,493.25 @ 25/05/2019 - Now £0 @ 24/02/2023 - £37,493.25 - 100% paid0 -
My point is why does the energy company have to show it at all, molerat said:
Because it has to be seen going through your energy account. They can't just bung you £66 and not account for it somewhere.MikeJXE said:This is what it says on the bill, why they have to do a + 66 and -66 is anybody's guess
Why can't the government just credit us with the funds ?0 -

Why can't the government just credit us with the funds ?Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.3 -
Because suppliers are doing it in different ways. For example, Octopus discounts the payment of £67 from the monthly DD payment (ie; if the DD payment was £77 per month then the consumer pays £10) and the full £77 is added to the credit balance. In truth, does it actually matter how it is accounted for.MikeJXE said:
