Lease deals on non-new cars?
I'd like to get an electric car, but probably not for 2-3 years. By that time, hopefully will have a new home with solar panels, and more electric cars will be available, and our finances will be a little more 'known'.
I'm not sure what to do in the meantime. We currently have an 11 year old ford focus. It's due a cam belt change and has a leaky coolant system. It's starting to feel it's age and I'm not confident that it will keep going reliably for the next few years.
I was thinking of perhaps selling it and getting a lease deal for the next 2/3 years. We'd have the peace of mind of it being under warranty and therefore any big expenses should be covered, as well as being a bit more reliable. That's obviously quite expensive though. I imagine a big chunk of the cost is because it's brand new car. I'm not fussed by it being brand new, so was wondering if you can get similar sorts of lease deals on nearly new cars that still come with the same level of warranty, but for a few £££ cheaper?

Yes there are companies that lease used cars. I would look for brands that come with a longer warranty like Toyota/Hyundai/ KIA etc, so if you get a 2/3 year old car it will still be under the manufacturers warranty. Not certain if this would be the cheapest option though.

If you're talking about moving house and better financials then you're going to be best running the focus a bit longer.
Though why not look at a used Leaf?1 -

It's also not a pure financial thing. It's the stress of not knowing whether you can rely on your car when going on a trip.

Yes it’s still called leasing if it’s a used car. Heres one

I run an 11 year old Ford and it still has plenty of life in it. Mine has done 103000 miles. I guess if yours hasn't had it's timing belt done it won't have done much more than 100,000 miles? The timing belt is expensive, but it's a lot cheaper than changing to a newer car. Have you checked what the issue is with the coolant? Mine was losing coolant recently and all it needed was a replacement coolant reservoir.0
