Phone calls to UAE

I’m trying to find the cheapest way to make phone calls to my son’s mobile in UAE. At the moment I pay £10 a month on my sim only Vodaphone bill for a 75 minute call which takes it to £28 a month. I would like to get a cheaper sim deal but would then pay a lot more for the UAE calls. I have looked on line and found Call2Call which looked good but has terrible reviews. Can anybody help?

Whatsapp, Skype, Facetime etc may not work in the UAE due to to government restrictions, unless there has been a relaxation

Video, voice calling features on WhatsApp and Facebook are not available for use in the UAE while Skype calls work for business accounts only.

WhatsApp will work in Dubai. You can use features such as:

    • Texting
    • Updating Statuses
    • Sending Voice Messages

    But you can't:

    • Audio Call
    • Video Call

In the UAE, telecom providers have a list of apps for residents such as Botim, Voico etc. that can be used to make local and international calls over the internet based on subscription offers ranging between Dh50 and Dh100 for one month.

ToTok is a free app that many users reported being able to use seamlessly but the app is currently only available on Google Play Store. For iOS users, those who initially downloaded ToTok app from App Store can still use it but new users cannot download as the app was later removed and has not yet been reinstated.

Also wechat works, but most of my friends and family use whatsapp via a VPN. Skype for business is not blocked. Google Hangouts, Zoom video calls work.

They would be better off installing a VPN that works then you can just use any of the mentioned apps.
