Hi. looking at leaving Virgin and going to BT full fibre for Broadband and Landline (as need it for elderly relatives).
As we do not want / need the tv package, is there anyway I can get a recording box from them without a tv package.
We have Amazon, Netflix and at the moment Apple tv as well as freeview, so dont feel like paying for anymore tv channels.
I have an old Humax recorder would this be an ok solution if no BT box available.
Thank you.

BT are obviously not going to provide you with a set top box for ‘free’ , BTTV is a Freeview+ box with access to some BT supplied VOD , nothing stopping you getting a ‘retail’ Freeview+ box new , or get used BTTV box from places such as E*ay , the recording , pausing live TV etc, still work without a BTTV subscription1

Hi, I think a Humax box might be okay. BT don't usually supply a new TV box if they're not supplying the TV programmes. You usually have to pay a one off fee for a box anyway.
As you say your relatives are elderly, would they be eligible for BT Essentials, which gives special prices for people who are on low incomes or on benefits?
I'm also 'elderly' - in my 70s - and am with BT but sadly don't qualify.
However, if your relatives do, there's more info in this link -

You can phone BT and ask for a quote anyway, I've usually found that's the best way to get the best prices. You're not obligated to join them. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. I've got a BT TV 4K box which I kept after leaving BT TV about 2 years ago, but before they changed their T&C's.
I would recommend looking on eBay, which usually has a wide selection, at reasonable value.
You can also buy similar looking boxes made by Humax at Currys and other shops. But be warned that these boxes do not have the very useful one minute per press fast forward or the 15 second per press rewind that we have found very useful when zapping through the ads on recorded programmes."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
