Northern Lights trip

I am looking into a trip to see the northern lights (as a solo traveller)
for anyone who has done this, did you use a company with specific experience in this sort of trip? and a general package holiday company?

we went on a cruise (which are also good for solos)  to see the northern lights and we were lucky as we saw them most nights but god it was cold!!   

there were people onboard who had been 3 times and this was the first time they had seen them.     we did pay extra for a trip inland which supposedly had more chance to see the lights but we saw more from the ship than on the trip

We did it all DIY

Airline SAS
Airbnb for the accomodation, hired a car, 

Plan was to DIY a driving route at night but I also booked an organised tour

as a back up plan JIC the weather was not good locally.

We saw the lights every night for the 5 nights were were there and also went on the tour, which was very good.
