DLA and Carers Allowence

Hello.

My son has just been awarded higher rate DLA. We (my partner and I) would like to start a claim for Carers Allowence. However, I did all the paperwork for the DLA claim and the DLA letter is addressed to me but my partner is a stay at home dad and therefore our son's main caregiver. I earn more than the threshold so obviously cannot apply. Can he still apply for CA? Or should I call the DWP to get them to change our details?

Thanks for reading :)

My OH applied for carer's allowance for his mom and previously his dad.  It had nothing to do with my income but rather the fact that he was spending 35 hours a week as a carer.  Like your partner he had no other income.

Anybody can claim CA for looking after him. It doesn't matter atet you are his appointee.

Just to check - do you claim UC as a couple? If you do, you can claim the carer element of UC without actually claiming CA.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
