Retailer claiming items weren’t received

I purchased some items online just before Christmas and returned some of them due to not suiting me.
The retailer issued a partial refund and when I chased to find out where the rest of the refund was I was told the items hadn’t been received.
The retailer is now asking me to send proof of the items being sent back. Where do I stand with this? They were all in one returns parcel so of course I don’t have proof other than the tracking info.

Did you pay for postage? If so, would the weight of the parcel indicate how many items were in it?0 -
If somebody has exercised their right to cancel under The Consumer Contract Regulations, does it matter who paid for the return if the returned items get lost, so long as the consumer can provide proof of sending them back?
