Driving in Europe
Hi - I'm planning a trip by road to Germany, driving through France, Belgium, Netherlands en route.
I understand my car needs to display a UK symbol these days rather than GB. However the instructions about this are not extremely clear in my circumstances. I have one number plate [front] which was recently replaced and says UK, while the original on the back still has a GB marking with the EU flag.
Is it sufficient to just have one marking saying UK, or would the fact one still says GB mean I need to supplement it with a UK sticker too.
Many thanks.

If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...

whatever the exact legalities, for the sake of literally a couple of quid, you'd be as well to fit a UK magnet/sticker adjacent to the rear plate in any case.2

The answer is no.
You can use a UK indentifier and union flag on the rear number plate in most countries but you are not ment to use any combination of GB indentifier with or without union flag or an EU symbol, English, Welsh or Scottish flags on the number plate. (without a UK sticker)
I write most countries as I know when in Spain you must display an oval white and black UK sticker no matter what is on your number plate.
Not sure if any other countries follow suit.
You can buy stickers that cover your GB & Euro symbol so they show UK and the union flag.

AFAIK the national identifier must be on the rear of the vehicle.1

Had the plates been the other way around you could be OK, but the country marking has to be on the rear in compliance with the regulations.0
