Confused by recent UC payment

So it's early on 28th December, and we are due our UC payment today, we get it on the 28th of each month anyway.

I checked the bank account(halifax) at 10 past midnight, and it was already there(payments don't usually go in until half past or so). Not only that but in the transaction title it had "faster payment" and a date of 23 December. The amount marries up with what our uc account states we will get.

Would it have actually gone in last Friday? I thought today was a normal day? UC account is no help as every month it says you will receive your payment by 8pm on the 28th even when the 28th is a weekend day and i know ill get it on the friday. If I knew that I'd have been able to get 1 or 2 last minute presents on Christmas eve!

UC payments due to go in on Wednesday 28 December were supposed to be paid on the 28th (unlike other DWP payments such as PIP which were paid last Friday. Maybe it was sent last Friday but it may have gone in just after midnight?

DWP offices outside of Scotland are closed today, so the payments would have been added to their systems on Friday 23rd December ready to go through on Wednesday 28th December. Because the normal Banking system processing days (allowing for weekend and Bank Holiday closure) would make your payment late when added on 23rd December, DWP adds it to the system as faster payment, so it would hit your account on 28th December, which is why it came through earlier this morning.
