The logical reason is regional pricing reflects regional cost, this reduces cross subsidy and reflects the cost of both the network provision and the prices the suppliers have to pay from the generators combined with transmission costs. The choice for national pricing vs regional pricing is not a logical vs illogical choice, both are entirely logical choices, they are just different choices. A choice is not illogical just because you do not agree with it.molerat said:So the logical reason is because it has always been that way ?2 -
There is no morally justifiable reason for differing energy prices. The majority of sectors do not charge differing prices according to location, if they do the customer goes elsewhere, even many of courier companies have now seen the light. With energy you are a captive of your location.

i could just as easily say theres no morally justifiable reason why someone living there best life in the middle of the country side should have the cost of there electric supply OR there parcel delivery subsidised by someone living in a cheap inner city flat. thats the thing with morality and justification. its worth about as much in a sentence as 'i dont think'molerat said:There is no morally justifiable reason for differing energy prices. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.1 -
Wow this derailed quickly once more. Back to the Christmas pudding1

So you are now switching from logic to morality? There is a perfectly justifiable moral reason, it reflects the real world costs.molerat said:There is no morally justifiable reason for differing energy prices.
Water, petrol and diesel, LPG and fuel oil, supermarkets, council tax, catering, I am sure there are many others.molerat said:The majority of sectors do not charge differing prices according to location,
Sometimes, not always, it depends if the costs are competitive for the region.molerat said:if they do the customer goes elsewhere,
Nearly all courier companies charge extra for "Highland and islands" which usually starts about 25 miles north of Glasgow and Edinburgh, the same as they do for Northern Ireland, the Isle of Wight, Channel Islands and some other locations.molerat said:even many of courier companies have now seen the light.
And? Why should the cost of supplying the location not be reflected in the price charged?molerat said:With energy you are a captive of your location.
Again, just because you disagree with something does not make it illogical, or as you now claim immoral.0 -
I have already eaten too much Christmas pudding and cheese, though mostly cheese!Mstty said:Wow this derailed quickly once more. Back to the Christmas pudding0 -

Too much of that can give you indigestion which is not good for clear thinking.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke0

By no means most, but a few do. And the result is the customer goes elsewhere as you say. I never buy from a company that charges extra for delivery to our address, because I have always found one that does not.MattMattMattUK said:
