Kyle of Tongue, Scotland - help please

Hi there
I was wondering if anyone can help, we are touring Scotland next year on motorbikes ans have most of the journey planned out, after studying the map i'm a little unsure on the A838 road which goes from Durness to John O'Groats, the map shows the road starting at one side of the Kyle Of Tongue but doesn't show how to cross this strech :-

Does the road cross under/over the Kyle Of Tongue ? or do we need to catch a ferry accross ??

Any help would be great, don't fancy swimming ......

    hi,
there's a kind of causeway with the road going over it, you can see it HERE

I've been along that stretch of road on a motorbike & it's stunning, I'm sure you'll have a great time :)

oh it does seem to be dead, I'll try to fix it
but meanwhile, if you go to the Multimap site (not risking any more links) & search for Tongue, the map should come up for you

    sorry bout that :o

EDIT ... fixed now, I'd managed to get two 'https' in it

No need to swim, but you will need your waterproofs....stunning part of the world, especially the dark, brooding cliffs at Durness.Rains an awful lot, though.
The campsite at Durness is lovely, well it was when I was there many moons ago.Smoo cave down the road from it is worth a visit too.
Allow more time than you think you'll need to travel between stops, there are still many single track roads with passing places up there, and plenty of carvans too.

Cape Wrath is the point furthest north in mainland Scotland, iirc, you might want to stop off there since you're up there.;)
