Sharing my Netflix with someone - how likely I'll get booted?

https://help.netflix.com/en/node/24926

So I'm on the Standard plan so as I understand it, my account can show on 2 devices at once but it says at the top "single household".

A family member got their Netflix through someone else but there were issues with the account because this person turned out to be giving their account details to every Tom, !!!!!! & Harry & saying they were going halves in with them. That was a lot of halves!

This family member then asked if they could chip in with me on my account details.

I can 100% trust this family member to not go giving my details to other people so that isn't a concern I have.

My concern is that my account can/will be logged as streaming in two different locations & then I'll have my account shut down.

I'm sure at least one person reading this has first hand experience of this situation. Just wondering if someone could comment. Thanks.

My only observation is that a friend has been sharing his account with us for about six years now and we haven't had any issues.

Your experience of course could differ.

I share my account with my mum and dad, father in law and mother in law and my Uncle.   I've done this for 8 years with no problems.

  • I have used an account for a number of years belonging to a relative who lived in Chile. He has relocated to another country a year ago,  and I’ve been waiting for our use of the account to be terminated.
    So far so good!
  • From this article about Netflix trials in South America for adding a home to an account - https://www.whathifi.com/news/netflix-will-trial-new-charges-for-password-sharing-from-next-month - it looks like it could depend on whether you and the other family member are both watching on smart TVs, in different homes.
If so, then Netflix may, when they introduce this feature in the UK, ask you to pay some amount extra.
But if one or both of you are just watching on mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets and laptops, then it looks like you should be ok.

Hasn't there been a court ruling recenty which decided that password sharing for netflix etc. was illegal?

@Bradden, I didn't read the article, only the headline - as it said MAY be illegal, which unless the rest of the article goes against that, means either it isn't at the moment or nobody knows, not that it 100% is.

As for how it'll be watched, it'll be on a smart TV in my house & also a smart TV in their house.

I sub to Netflix via BT for £10 a month. Surprised I somehow get a 99p discount.
