Shower leak any ideas

Hey

we had our bathroom done in oct. When the shower was fitted it would leak slightly, the lads came back out and said the water was getting through where the frame is attached
to the wall. Sealed it up job done. It’s my partner that used the shower (I’m a bath a girl) and he’s normally only in 5mins. Tonight I used it to wash my hair so was in about 10-15 mins and the “leak” is back. It’s always this little corner, and isn’t much (toliet roll absorbs it makes it look more) but want to get to the bottom of it. So it happens only when the shower is used for more than say 10mins and it seems to happen once the showers turned off (see it starting to seep the paper when you get out), but I don’t think it’s leaking the whole time you’re in the shower or it would be everywhere. Shower tray (outside) above is dry. Tiles are dry. Confused! Any ideas?

  • I had the same problem with my bath screen and whilst it is a little difficult to tell from your photo the design looks similar to what we have.

I would imagine the trim part on the right of your photo is the long ‘C’ section bit that is screwed into the wall, then the frames glass panel slots into it. Is it an open design rather than cubicle?

Water on mine was getting into the tiny gap in between this trim and the panel on the inside, then dripping down and behind the edge of the bath, effectively the part concealed by the corner of the trim at the bottom. This I would imagine is why you see no visible drips on the external visible parts of either your tiles or shower tray.

The only way I managed to fix mine was run a thin bead of sealant along this small gap between the two parts on the inside. I didn’t really get the design to be honest or how to stop this. I’m sure there is a way of installing it to prevent it but I couldn’t work it out.

We had a similar issue. Drove us mad trying to find the leaking area of sealant. Handyman neighbour came to look and discovered the idiot plumber had not removed the protective clear shrink wrap from the shower tray before fitting it. Hence all the sealant he’d applied was just sealing onto plastic shrink wrap and not the actual shower tray!
    Could it be that?

experiment with the shower head aimed at different areas, that will show where the water is getting through at.
I recently looked at an issue in September and couldn't see it, just this month I realised the entire bath had dropped 0.5mm and the 150mm silicone bead along the fixed portion of the shower screen had a gap. really not easy to spot, if I'd have just sprayed water at it I'm sure I would have noticed earlier!

Just curious as to why you're concerning yourself about getting it fixed?  Personally I'd be getting the original fitter back to sort it

I know you said they came back and applied silicone, but where? There should be silicone along the bit where the frame joins the wall but there doesn’t appear to be any in that photo.

There shouldn’t be any silicone along the bottom on the inside of the screen.

As has been suggested, it's a good idea to look at what's happening inside the cubicle at that corner or along the horizontal bead of sealant leading to that corner. Even if sealing the outside appears to cure the problem, water could still be leaking onto the floor where you can't see it.

Perhaps get the heaviest of you to stand in the shower and move around a bit, with the shower off, while the other looks closely at the horizontal sealant to see if there is movement. Perhaps the base isn't being supported well enough.

Also, can you clarify if you can see exactly where the water is appearing at that corner? Just where the black vertical strip meets the white base or where the white base meets the floor?

One person in the running shower, moving around, with the other outside looking at that corner closely should confirm this
