Item Damaged sold On Ebay GSP

So I sold an item which was delivered yesterday damaged.  It was sold on Ebay GSP to Italy and the buyer has sent pics of the damage. He has raised a return request with Ebay and I don't know what the best course of action is.  It definitely was well packaged when I sent it to the GSP Shipping Centre.  I have options of either refunding him or waiting a week to escalate it. I was under the impression then when you sent items to the GSP shipping centre they inspect the items and repackage it and I was covered by their insurance.  What should I do?  Many Thanks

Phone eBay, they do protect sellers against damage claims so pull up the relevant bits on the GSP t and c’s and ask them to deal with it.
