Affordable Broadline for kittens or alternative in UK?

Hello,

We have a five month old kitten and have been getting broadline from the vet for treatment. At 11GBP a pop, I wonder is there a more affordable option I can make use of?

Like can I get it elsewhere cheaper or is there a different treatment that's just as good?

  • I use frontline on my cat, but I only apply it a couple of times a year so a 6 pack lasts a few years.

    Mine is an indoor cat.

What is it being used to treat? It's one of those spot-ons that does pretty much everything, there will be a cheaper alternative that just treats fleas or worms, but mite treatment seems to only be in expensive vet-prescribed bundles.

If you're doing it as a preventative measure, it may not be necessary - are they going outside? Ours only go into a catio and our vet recommended an annual worming treatment and only treating fleas if needed (which hasn't happened yet). One came to us with ear mites, so I do sympathise with the cost and hassle of dealing with that - but once gone, they've not returned.

Broadline is a prescription only medication, so though you can buy it online, you'll need a prescription for it. Whether that will be cheaper depends on what your vet will charge for just a prescription but a quick Google doesn't seem promising - it's about £20 for 3 including postage, and most vets charge around £13 (the possible saving) for a prescription.
  • Just had a quick search online and Viovet seem to do it cheaper....

    I have found it  here:
    https://www.direct4pet.co.uk/products/broadline-spot-on-solution-for-cats

Just under £29 for 3- smallest cat weight
    Free postage
Does not seem to  require a prescription but you have to fill in the documentation re pet name/ weight etc. & sign a declaration.

They do other spot-ons- you may be paying for the name
    Frontline is £25 for 6

You need to check the ingredients because Broadline might be containing something extra

Same as viovet, or 365 vets or any of the other reputable pet medicine suppliers - it does need a prescription.

Oops- didn't see that because I didn't scroll right to the bottom.

    mea culpa: Apologies

I suspect that the your vet will charge an amount equivalent to your online saving- that's what seems to happen round here.

Would Frontline not be suitable? very much cheaper- but my other comment would be do you really need to use such stuff so regularly?

I know it's different but my dogs rarely get fleas and I am mindful of putting too many chemicals in/ on them. Do worm regularly.
