Help on whether I can insure a hotel stay

I have tickets for a gig in London booked for my son, the hotel was quite pricey and to get it a bit cheaper i done it on a none cancel pre pay. I wondered if there was any type of insurance to cover a one night hotel stay should the gig get moved or cancelled?
Just thought i would ask as I would hate to lose the money should something like that happen as the hotels t and c state it can not be moved.

Why not just go anyway and do something else if the gig doesn't happen as planned?

Travel insurance would generally pay for cancellation only if you were unable to travel for some reason (illness, travel disruption, jury service etc). It won't generally cover cancellation of the hotel if you're able to travel but no longer want to - even if the reason you no longer want to is that the event you were going to is no longer taking place.
I'm afraid the best way to "insure" against this type of risk is probably to pay the extra for a flexible hotel booking which allows you to cancel at short notice with little or no penalty.1 -
You would be better to pay the extra for a booking which can be cancelled at short notice without charge. Then, if the gig is going ahead, check for any late availability at the hotel, book that and cancel the original booking.

I doubt that's the sort of thing you can insure against (not at a price which would be worthwhile anyway). As suggested, surely he can find something else to do in London even if the gig is cancelled?0

Thank for the replies guys. I didn’t do the cancellation option as it was £120 more and I couldn’t justify paying £300 for one night accommodation just to sleep there, it killed me paying £180 but it’s a Xmas present for my son and a one off to see an artist he loves. . Hopefully it doesn’t get moved or cancelled and if it does I’m guessing by then I will have train tickets so would probably just go anyway to save losing the money. Just wasn’t sure if there was such an insurance thing so thought it best to ask.0

Whilst a considerable sum to be paying for one night its just too small a risk for an insurer to be interested in.0
