Always take a receipt; only way to keep a tally so you know every transaction on your bank statement is correct; and evidence if it doesn't.
As far as I can recall, I have never ever had an incorrect transaction from Aldi or Lidl on my bank statement. My reason for raising the thread was to highlight the fact that on several occasions I have has incorrect transactions on my receipts from both stores and I have absolutely no doubt that I am not the only customer that this is happening to.
I use the self-scan checkouts in Lidl and that always provides a receipt: never asks, just prints. I guess at least a fifth of people don't take their receipts. It is Sainsbury's self-scans which always ask whether a receipt is required - and I always select "yes".
A most definite "yes", whatever it's for. What annoys me is when I have to ask for one. It isn't a legal requirement for retailers to provide you with one, but equally it isn't a legal requirement for you to provide one when returning goods. What is required is proof of purchase (eg credit card statement) but it sure makes life easier if you do have a receipt.
I wish there was the option for email receipts for the supermarkets with loyalty cards - they already have my details and I'd much prefer a difficult to lose, easy to search, digital copy than a piece of paper on the odd occasion that I actually shop in store.
Also it could be part of the CS delivery requirement by the retailer.
In my later years, having worked for a heritage site, there was a compendium of info one HAD to delivery to the customer and 'woe betide' if you didn't and the 'mystery shopper' was the recipient. If one didn't get the '100%' then a lot in drawn breath and hand ringing by management ensued.
I always have a receipt so I can scan it in Shoppix and/or Huyu.
